After seeing some recent photos popping up of Biased Cut shirts in the city streets of New York, a few friends (and fans, we presume) decided that we needed to broaden our appeal to the ski bum demographic. And so they graciously undertook this little project (completely unbeknownst to us), snapping some photos in the B/V Striped while cruising the Colorado slopes. Our only regret is that we weren’t there to be a part of the action.
A huge thanks to Big Al, Ganellie, Lang, and the Rebel XTi for helping represent the active side of Biased Cut.
Preview shots from our recent photo shoot. All ties by Pierrepont Hicks, shirts by Biased Cut, and photos by Unabashedly Prep. Big props and muchas gracias to everyone involved.

Unfortunately jj’s most recent album isn’t as great as the one released last summer, so we’re sticking with a song from the old one for now.

Read about it here
If you’ve ever owned a dress shirt, chances are you’ve also owned some collar stays (and if you’re cool or British, which we aren’t, you may also call them collar bones). Even Kohl’s brand shirts come with them (we think). But you’ll probably want to upgrade from the flimsy pieces of plastic to something a little stronger and longer lasting. Lots of retailers offer their own basic plastic versions; below are a few examples of other options out there.
Classic and refined, you can never go wrong with brass or stainless steel. Or both. $20 for 6 pairs of brass and 6 pairs of stainless steel:
Or go the more rugged route with these nickel ones and a hand-stamped customized initialing or message (please don’t use the examples in the picture if you plan on buying these for yourself). $25 for a pair:

Wurkin Stiffs has an innovative approach to collar stays, making them multi-functional. Not satisfied with just keeping your collar arrow-straight, it aims to keep your collar from splaying out (eg, under your suit jacket) by using strong magnets that are placed underneath your shirt. We don’t fully understand it, and we haven’t tried it ourselves, so we can’t endorse it. But seems like a decent idea if you have floppy collars (ahem, ahem). $20 a pair:

Speaking of practical, it doesn’t get much better than this – on those dreadful days when you forget to pop in your stays, just reach for your wallet. But don’t grab money for a quick run to the store – instead, pull out your spare collar stays. A pair of 3 for $5:

And finally, if you need to go big, well, these should do the trick. But please remember – collar stays are meant to be hidden, and no one is going to be seeing them except for you. And perhaps your dry cleaner, after they’ve damaged your shirt. Don’t forget to take them out! One pair of Stayclip Diamond Edged Platinum Collar Stays ($15,000):
In the spirit of the Olympics… this week’s artists are all from Canada! And the first two are even out of Vancouver.
Also, ever wanted to make your own little electronic tune or riff? It’s as simple as this. Be careful, it’s EXTREMELY addictive.

“April showers bring May flowers,” so they say. On account of this ancient adage, we’d like to pay tribute to the upcoming rain season. For those of us living in cities where the daily walk to work is inevitable, all the more reason to prep ourselves for the rainfall, starting with modern-looking and functional pieces.
While these umbrellas from Takashimaya look like more art than function, they do a great job of covering up. According to the store’s website, the first umbrella was designed by Dutch students and can withstand winds up to 70mph. The second umbrella comes in three colors and has a unique shape for good rain shield.
Davek has a more masculine feel to it. Its weight is a testament to its sturdiness. The best things about this product include the auto-open and auto-close button system, and its lifetime guarantee.

Biased Cut is rolling out an additional way of introducing new shirting fabrics. For all the savvy shirt buyers/collectors out there, here’s a chance to make your voice heard! In the future we’ll be periodically updating the blog with fabric swatches collected from around the world (Japan, Italy, France, etc…). If you see a fabric that you love (or maybe just think is the least offensive), cast your vote at the bottom. And feel free to leave comments for more feedback – even if you don’t like any of them at all.
This month we have a “Battle of the Plaids”. Plaid and checkered shirts have been everywhere this year, but the line between a tasteful gingham and a table cloth is being crossed a little too often. Biased Cut wants to have your input on what you would or wouldn’t wear – and the most popular choices will be featured in our upcoming collection.
Could there be a better song/video combination to get you aching for the summer?
