Watch out Lomo, IPhone is on your tail – Toy Camera

September 25, 2009

Amongst the array of camera apps offered for the iPhone, our favorite is Toy Camera, created by Japanese photographer Takayuki Fukatsu. This is a fail proof app for amateur and skilled photographers alike. The user never quite knows what to expect, as each photo is embellished with random effects. Every snapshot features a retro quality, much like that of a Lomographic camera. So why shell out $50 for a bulky Diana when $1.99 will do?

Other than the random mode, the newest version of Toy Camera allows users to select different modes. Some of my favorites include Vintage Green, Vintage Yellow, High Saturation, Toning Sepia… to be honest, I love them all, they are just too much fun!

Here are some sample pictures I took last week. The pictures turn out amazing not only because of the Toy Camera application, but also because of the amazing city, NYC.

I have this app, but it almost never turns out as well for me. Need to learn proper, or at least BETTER, usages of lighting.

Yeah, the pictures don’t always turn out the way we want them to. The key is really the lighting, since the iPhone’s camera doesn’t capture light as well as most digital cameras, and these toy camera apps are often skewing the light exposure. But we think the imperfections of the iPhone camera just add to the toy camera effect. BTW, you have some great photos on your blog too – what type of device do you use?

yeah, I find that you have to take and retake. If they don’t turn it then it probably wasn’t meant to be.

Thanks :] Actually, I lost my camera about a month ago and am stuck on using friends’ cameras and/or my Iphone. Sad, but true. It’s so hard to get reliable images, but I’m terrible with saving for a new one, so I make do with what I got.
